First-principles and model calculation of manganites

Résumé: the subject of this thesis is the study of the electronic and properties of manganites these materials have studied using both model and ab initio Self-Interaction Correction to the Local Spin Density Approximation (SIC-LSD) Calculations. Amodel hamiltonian has been used to investigate the properties of the surfaces of hole-doped manganites. The SIC-LSD, implemented in the Liner Muffin -Tin Orbitals (LMTO) method, has been used to study orbital ordering in LaMnO3(LMO) to elucidate the importance of electronic correlations. Calculations have been carried within the same schem to investigate the interfaces between La0.7Sr0.3MnO3(LSMO) and SrTiO3(STO) in the tunnel junction geometry...
