Résumé: In a recent paper (Sen AK. Computers & Graphics 1999; 22(6):759?764), the product-delay algorithm was presented as a means of creating graphic designs on a computer. The algorithm was illustrated with sine and square waves. It was shown that a multitude of interesting geometric patterns can be generated with these waveforms. In this paper the product-delay algorithm is used to explore the e¤ects of amplitude and frequency modulation on pattern formation. The strikingly di¤erent e¤ects of amplitude and frequency modulation are illustrated with the aid of several examples.
