Résumé: Smart cards are the key for information technology applications such as banking, e-purse and many others. The expanding functionality of smart cards is not fully used by most of the applications, and the number of potential applications is increasing day by day. In some cases, the restricted computing resources of smart cards may result in limitations. In this paper, potential limitations will be listed and possible solutions will be shown, namely: ? High-capacity cards. ? High-speed data exchange (USB/MMC/Bluetooth). ? Embedded power sources. ? On-board user interface. ? On-board biometrical sensor and user authentication. ? Real time.
