Résumé: This article presents an update on recent developments in the area of cryptographic algorithms that are relevant for smart cards. It includes a review of the status of hash functions, block ciphers and stream ciphers and presents an update on authenticated or unforgeable encryption. Finally the issue of secure padding for the RSA algorithm is discussed and the status of Elliptic Curve Cryptography is briefly reviewed.
