ملخص: Depuis 1990, la diphterie a fait sa reapparition sur le mode epidemique, dans les etats nouvellement independants de l'ex-URSS. L'Algerie a egalement connu une recrudescence de la maladie avec trois epidemies en 1993, 1994 et 1995, dans diverses regions du pays. La tranche d'age la plus touchee est de 11 a 20 ans. Cent huit souches de Corynebacterium diphtheriae ont ete isolees au cours de ces epidemies; parmi elles, 71 sont de biotype mitis et 8 de biotype gravis. La majorite d'entre elles, soit 95, est resistante aux tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, sulfamides et fosfomycine, 6 aux tetracyclines, sulfamides et fosfomycine, 6 autres aux sulfamides et a la fosfomycine et 1 aux tetracyclines et a la fosfomycine. Trente neuf souches ont ete envoyees en Roumanie (Centre de reference de la diphterie pour l'Organisation Mondiale de la Sante) pour la mise en evidence du pouvoir toxinogene et la determination du lysotype : 32 souches sont toxinogenes, de lysotype VI, 6 ne produisent pas de toxines; parmi celles-ci, 1 est de lysotype VI et 5 sont lysoresistantes.
