Chemical reactions on redox polymer precursors--I. Chloromethylation and lithiation

ملخص: Chloromethylation and lithiation were amongst the different chemical reactions carried out on five redox polymers: poly(5-vinyl-1,3-benzodioxole), poly I; poly(3,4-dimethoxystyrene), poly II; poly(2,3-dimethoxystyrene), poly III; poly(6-vinyl-1,4-benzodioxane), poly IV; poly(4-vinyl-1,3-benzodioxole), poly V. In the course of the former reaction, an inter- and/or intrapolymeric Friedel-Crafts alkylation has been ensued leading to crosslinked polymers. Only poly(6-vinyl-1,4-benzodioxane), poly IV, could undergo chloromethylation but under severely controlled conditions. The lithiation did not exceed 60% in terms of degree of substitution.
